Q: Why 100 Holes?
Answer: While you may be used to golfing 18, 100 holes allows for a fun, fast-paced experience for golfers. It’s easy for golfers to raise funds by asking potential donors to sponsor the number of holes they can complete. It also presents an interesting challenge that most have never attempted.
Q: I’m not sure I can seriously golf 100 holes, what happens if I can’t?
A: Golf Marathon is not designed to be an extreme endurance event. There is a good deal of walking for most of the day, but many participants find the event more fun than anywhere close to exhausting. Not only do you have your own cart to help with the distance, the added motivation of playing with a team helps get you through 100 holes together.
Q: What are the rules of a ‘Golf Marathon’?
A: In short, they are quite different from normal golf! Some adjustments to ‘Best Ball’ and ‘playing through’ have been made to help keep things moving, and we would rather keep the rules a surprise for newcomers when they arrive.
Q: I’m not sure I want to participate by myself, how can I find a team?
A: Easy! You can either recruit some of your own friends to become official Golf Marathon participants or join a team on the day of the event. The social aspect of Golf Marathon is what takes the event from ‘enjoyable’ to ‘unforgettable’.
Q: I don’t think I can raise enough money to golf, is there something else I can do and still be a part of the event?
A: Absolutely! We would definitely encourage to try and raise the funds to be a golfer, and with Greek InterVarsity’s fantastic resources, you shouldn’t have trouble. However, if you would like to get involved in another way, there are opportunities as Caddies and General Volunteers.
Q: I can’t get the time off to golf for the whole day, how can I still participate?
A: After the day of golfing, the events go on to cap a great day with a great night. More details are to come regarding the post-marathon dinner and celebration, but all Greek InterVarsity supporters are encouraged to attend!
Q: I have absolutely zero golf-related talent or interest, but I love Greek InterVarsity, how can I participate?
A: Golf Marathon is a different flavor of experience than you would find at Augusta. It is a fast paced, fun-filled event that is more about enjoying friends and family and raising support for Greek InterVarsity than it is about showing off your golf skills. If that sounds appealling to you, then contact us volunteer opportunities that are needed throughout the day of the event.
Q: I’m not from Indianapolis, how can I participate?
A: We can help coordinate flights, pickups, and accommodations for participants interested in being a part of this event. Don’t let your geographic location be a deterrant!
Q: I recently graduated or am having a really hard time thinking I can raise $2,500, what happens if I can’t?
A: We will work with you to help you raise as much as possible. There are costs associated with each golfing participant, and we at least need to be able to cover those. If you have trouble reaching that, we still want to you to be a part of golf marathon and ask that you just simply focus on doing your best to convey your interest of the event to your friends and family.
Q: Is it possible to have one donation cover my fundraising?
A: While a single donation is most definitely welcome, we want to challenge participants to raise as much as possible and spread the word about the work of Greek InterVarsity. Donation checks, though, can be directed towards the addresses contained in the Golfer Resources.
Q: I’m a serious competitor, is the event just for having fun?
A: So you thought this wasn’t a serious event, huh? While the event is designed for everyone to have a great time, we do give out awards for Overall Low Score, Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, Longest Putt, Best Fundraiser and much more!
Q: How can I get my friends who can’t participate as a golfer to still experience the fun of Golf Marathon?
A: Golf Marathon will have a post-marathon celebration that anyone who is interested in the work of Greek InterVarsity can attend.
Q: Does it cost to volunteer or participate outside of Golfing or Caddying?
A: The event is designed to raise funds for Greek InterVarsity’s work with college students around the nation. We do incur costs associated with the event and all participants, and so we would love for all volunteers and/or participants to find a way to support Greek InterVarsity.
Q: Does Greek InterVarsity have any other events that I could support as well?
A: We’re glad you asked! While the Golf Marathon is one of the largest fund raising events of the year, Greek InterVarsity also hosts an annual Alumni Gala in Chicago and also puts on Greek Conferences across the country. These conferences are what Golf Marathon and other events support so if you’d like to give a direct donation to the conference or volunteer at any of the locations, send an email to greek@intervarsity.org to find out how to get involved!
